Participants in the workshop Nuts and Bolts: Building an Effective Web Presence will learn how to create a web strategy for themselves and their clients at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, B.C.

Creating an effective web presence goes far beyond simply having a website says workshop leader Terry Rachwalski.“A lot of people figure if you build a website, people will come to it. Wrong attitude!” says Rachwalski, who has designed and implemented multiple ‘go-to-market’ strategies in North America and Asia through her Victoria-based firm, Front Porch Perspectives. Specializing in web and new media strategies for technology firms, she says the strategies apply to all sectors.

“A successful web presence is supported by a variety of activities. Beyond key words and directory listings we also have to consider using social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as news releases and articles that link to all the supporting sites.”

Web-based marketing is a relatively new and constantly changing field rife with buzz words such as search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM) and affiliate marketing. Rachwalski’s workshop will help management consultants better understand the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the work so they can capitalize on the opportunities offered by an effective web presence.

To further help consultants make the most of web-based opportunities, Rachwalski is developing World of Consulting, an on-line community to help sole practitioner and medium-size consultants build a web presence and promote their work. A fully-linked directory and forum will allow consultants to network with other consultants in their fields, find associates, share information and learn about the latest trends. World of Consulting is the diamond sponsor of Consulting Conference 2010 and hosts the management conference website. World of Consulting will be launched later this spring. Meanwhile, consultants are invited to try it out for free.

Nuts and Bolts: Building an Effective Web Presence is one of 12 sessions at Consulting Conference 2010, which is designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society. The management conference will also feature a keynote presentation with internationally renowned management consultant Dr. Alan Weiss, author of more than 30 books about consulting.
For more information about the conference, and to register, see the Consulting Conference 2010 website: http://cmc.worldofconsulting.com or call 1-800-268-1148.

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A panel discussion will explore how to do well by doing what’s right at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, B.C.
The three managing partners of The Acacia Group from Kelowna, B.C. will present a session called The Triple Helix of People, Planet and Profit – How to Work with Clients to Weave Corporate Social Responsibility into the Corporate DNA.

“Corporate Social Responsibility is an emerging imperative that is relevant to business consultants who are working with organizations,” said Penny Lane, a managing partner of The Acacia Group. “An understanding of CSR will support consultants who want to look for enterprise-wide solutions that address the interest of all stakeholders as well as support employee engagement and increase awareness of the triple bottom line of people, planet and profits.”

The interactive management consulting workshop will feature examples of leading organizations that are demonstrating efforts to fully engage in the communities in which they do business. Participants will leave with a broader knowledge of the importance of CSR in the business world as well as some tools that will allow them to query the status of the organizations they work with or buy from.

“They will also be introduced to a unique model that demonstrates CSR as not just a ‘nice-to-have’ add-on within the corporate realm but a true enterprise-wide competitive advantage,” said Lane.

The three speakers are experienced in providing interactive and informative sessions that are designed to facilitate learning for the participants.

Penny Lane, CMC, specializes in leadership and Evidence-Based coaching, facilitation, strategy development and project management. Christine Bonney has extensive consulting experience in both the private and not-for-profit sectors. Dave Harrhy brings a lifelong passion for social justice and corporate social responsibility to his work.

The Triple Helix workshop is one of 12 sessions at the conference, which is designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society. VANCOUVER, B.C. – Even the most disciplined athletes have days when they don’t want to lace up and hit the pavement. Manufacturing an excuse to skip a workout is easy, and most of us can find every reason not to run.

The same is true in business, says consultant Bev McPhee, who will deliver a workshop called Every Reason Not to Run at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. (CMC-BC) May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, B.C.

“Business consultants often find that their clients opt out of the work that would make them a success,” says McPhee. “In this workshop, we’ll explore the psychology of business, along with primary reasons why key initiatives fail, achievable targets get missed, and good organizations finish last. Most importantly, we’ll discuss the critical role of management consultants in maximizing performance and success.”

As a senior managing consultant with IBM Global Business Services, McPhee is a three-time recipient of IBM’s prestigious service excellence award. The Victoria-B.C.-based consultant has led numerous strategic business transformation initiatives, working with both private and public sector clients to integrate wide-scale change and innovation. A keen advocate of emerging technologies, McPhee sits on various technology councils and boards. She is also a highly sought-after instructor at Royal Roads University in Victoria, where she teaches graduate-level courses in organizational communications, intercultural communications and business consulting.

Every Reason Not to Run is one of two workshops McPhee will lead at Consulting Conference 2010. She will also deliver Revolution 3.0, which will explore the shifts in behaviour that are re-shaping the way society shares information and knowledge in the digital age.

For more information about the conference, or to register, see the Consulting Conference 2010 website: or call 1-800-268-1148.
Early management conference registration discounts are available through May 25th for both CMC and non-CMC members. A post-secondary student rate is also available.
