Vancouver, B.C. – Three Victoria-based consultants will help participants at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference taking place May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, make the most of their online presence and online marketing activities.

Jeff Richards will deliver Building Your Website for Stormy Seas: Creating Credibility, Traffic and Authority. Chris Burdge will lead the workshop: Always Add Value: Why This Should be Your Social Media Mantra, while Terry Rachwalski will offer the session: Nuts and Bolts: Building an Effective Web Presence for Management Consultants (see the news release about this session and Rachwalski’s diamond level conference sponsorship).

“The web is changing constantly and it’s a challenge to find ways to keep your site relevant, informative, easy-to-use and effective,” says Richards. “My presentation will lay out the best practices for growing your business online by finding and retaining the traffic that is directly related to your business – and doing so in a way that’s cost-effective.”

Richards manages Constant-Content.com, a content marketplace where freelance writers connect with online publishers. He is also part of the management team at RevenueWire, an e-commerce platform where online businesses sell digitally download-able products.

Chris Burdge, founder of bWEST, an interactive marketing services firm, says his workshop will demonstrate that social media is neither a sales channel nor a marketing mechanism.

“Social media is a complete shift in the way you communicate with customers and prospects,” says Burdge. “My presentation starts with an overview of the social media landscape then goes into the details of how to create a value-based social media strategy that aligns with your communications strategy. The common thread throughout the presentation and the mantra we teach clients is ‘always add value.’”

Richards, Burdge, Rachwalski and John Thorp, presenter of the workshop Unlocking Value – Delivering on the Promise of IT, will also participate in a technology panel discussion at the conference. Their individual workshops are among 12 sessions at Consulting Conference, which is sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. and designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society.

The conference will also feature a keynote presentation with internationally renowned management consultant Dr. Alan Weiss, author of more than 30 books about consulting.

Vancouver, B.C. – Participants at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference taking place May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, will be introduced to a new use for an old toy – one that is now helping adults around the world increase their organizational creativity and performance.

The Danish firm LEGO® has transformed its popular plastic building blocks into a business resource called SERIOUS PLAY™ and Vancouver-based facilitator and trainer Jacqueline Lloyd Smith will be at the conference to demonstrate why she describes the process as ‘hands on, mind engaged.’

“With SERIOUS PLAY™, hands become the search engine for the brain, which has tons of info in it,” says Lloyd Smith, a principal of Lloyd Smith Solutions. “Our imaginations are really underdeveloped from when we were children, yet that’s exactly what we need to develop in order to become more creative and innovative –especially in a downturned economy when we have to think about things and solve problems in a new way.”

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY™ process entails a facilitator posing a question to a group, which the members answer individually by building with Lego. Each person then tells the story behind his or her creation, leading to dynamic discussions about an organization’s strengths, weaknesses and challenges.

“It’s a tool that zeros into the core of issues, taking us down to deeper levels of thinking so we can solve problems,” says Lloyd Smith. “Every LEGO model / artifact becomes a metaphor for something else. It’s a sub-conscious process that brings the unknown into the known – that’s where the ‘aha!’ moments occur.”
In addition to fostering creative thinking, Lloyd Smith says all the methods they use have the advantage of ensuring full participation from everyone in the group.

“Everybody has great ideas, this is a tool to bring those out in an objective way,” she says.
Another advantage is that the process is deeply analytical, allowing participants to delve into the source of a challenge rather than jumping prematurely to solutions that might not be appropriate.

In the corporate setting, LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY™ sessions take anywhere from four hours up to two days. At the consulting conference, the session will be used for small group discussions and introductions where participants will use a small packet of LEGO (that they get to keep) to tell the story of who they are, where they work, their strengths and their current challenges.

The LEGO® SERIOUS PLAY™ network session will kick off the Friday night reception at Consulting Conference 2010. In addition, there will be 12 workshops at the conference, which is sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. and designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society. The conference will also feature a keynote presentation with internationally renowned management consultant Dr. Alan Weiss, author of more than 30 books about consulting.

Lloyd Smith Solutions is a gold sponsor of the management Consulting Conference 2010.

Participants in the workshop Nuts and Bolts: Building an Effective Web Presence will learn how to create a web strategy for themselves and their clients at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, B.C.

Creating an effective web presence goes far beyond simply having a website says workshop leader Terry Rachwalski.“A lot of people figure if you build a website, people will come to it. Wrong attitude!” says Rachwalski, who has designed and implemented multiple ‘go-to-market’ strategies in North America and Asia through her Victoria-based firm, Front Porch Perspectives. Specializing in web and new media strategies for technology firms, she says the strategies apply to all sectors.

“A successful web presence is supported by a variety of activities. Beyond key words and directory listings we also have to consider using social media, such as Twitter and Facebook, as well as news releases and articles that link to all the supporting sites.”

Web-based marketing is a relatively new and constantly changing field rife with buzz words such as search engine optimization (SEO), search engine marketing (SEM) and affiliate marketing. Rachwalski’s workshop will help management consultants better understand the ‘nuts and bolts’ of the work so they can capitalize on the opportunities offered by an effective web presence.

To further help consultants make the most of web-based opportunities, Rachwalski is developing World of Consulting, an on-line community to help sole practitioner and medium-size consultants build a web presence and promote their work. A fully-linked directory and forum will allow consultants to network with other consultants in their fields, find associates, share information and learn about the latest trends. World of Consulting is the diamond sponsor of Consulting Conference 2010 and hosts the management conference website. World of Consulting will be launched later this spring. Meanwhile, consultants are invited to try it out for free.

Nuts and Bolts: Building an Effective Web Presence is one of 12 sessions at Consulting Conference 2010, which is designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society. The management conference will also feature a keynote presentation with internationally renowned management consultant Dr. Alan Weiss, author of more than 30 books about consulting.

VANCOUVER, B.C. – A panel discussion will explore how to do well by doing what’s right at Consulting Conference 2010, the management consulting conference sponsored by the Institute of Certified Management Consultants of B.C. May 28 – 29 in Vancouver, B.C.
The three managing partners of The Acacia Group from Kelowna, B.C. will present a session called The Triple Helix of People, Planet and Profit – How to Work with Clients to Weave Corporate Social Responsibility into the Corporate DNA.

“Corporate Social Responsibility is an emerging imperative that is relevant to business consultants who are working with organizations,” said Penny Lane, a managing partner of The Acacia Group. “An understanding of CSR will support consultants who want to look for enterprise-wide solutions that address the interest of all stakeholders as well as support employee engagement and increase awareness of the triple bottom line of people, planet and profits.”

The interactive management consulting workshop will feature examples of leading organizations that are demonstrating efforts to fully engage in the communities in which they do business. Participants will leave with a broader knowledge of the importance of CSR in the business world as well as some tools that will allow them to query the status of the organizations they work with or buy from.

“They will also be introduced to a unique model that demonstrates CSR as not just a ‘nice-to-have’ add-on within the corporate realm but a true enterprise-wide competitive advantage,” said Lane.

The three speakers are experienced in providing interactive and informative sessions that are designed to facilitate learning for the participants.

Penny Lane, CMC, specializes in leadership and Evidence-Based coaching, facilitation, strategy development and project management. Christine Bonney has extensive consulting experience in both the private and not-for-profit sectors. Dave Harrhy brings a lifelong passion for social justice and corporate social responsibility to his work.

The Triple Helix workshop is one of 12 sessions at the conference, which is designed to help business consultants enhance their consulting value to clients, to themselves, to the profession, and to society. The conference will also feature a keynote presentation with internationally renowned management consultant Dr. Alan Weiss, author of more than 30 books about consulting.
